Manager of EARSeL LinkedIn page

EARSeL (European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories) is looking for a young
member/PhD Student/young researcher with a background in Remote Sensing and in
social media for the management of the LinkedIn page of the association.

The tasks of the manager of the EARSeL page are to regularly update and feed the
LinkedIn page of the association with news, events and opportunities in the earth
observation domain. The goal is also to make the page as attractive as possible.

The LinkedIn page manager will work in close collaboration with the EARSeL webmaster
and will be in contact with the EARSeL Secretariat and the EARSeL Bureau.

A contract will be signed between EARSeL and the LinkedIn page manager. A honorary
is proposed and an annual activity report will have to be send by the LinkedIn page
manager to the EARSeL Bureau.

The contract would start in the first quarter of 2018.

Postdoctoral research fellow in Remote Sensing

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Research on Remote Sensing based drought indices for the project’s case study studies.
  • Product derivation (or improvement of existing products) of vegetation parameters’ (LST and LAI) from optical satellite data for crop yield modeling.
  • Research on assimilation of vegetation parameters to the process-based crop yield model.
  • Communication and active cooperation with the project partners and potential stakeholders.
  • Undertake short field visits to the project case study areas.
  • Support supervision of PhD, MSc, and BSc students in the context of the project.

Required skills and competences:

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent work experience) in Remote Sensing or Geomatics.
  • Excellent understanding of principles in Remote Sensing as well as skills in handling and processing of Remote Sensing and GIS data; an experience with agronomic modelling is an advantage.
  • Sound programming skills (R, Python etc.) for spatial application.
  • Publication record in international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Excellent English skills, German language is of advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and team-oriented attitude in a collaborative environment.

W3 Professorship in Geography

The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and has teaching experience in Geomatics and Physical Geography. He/she will be required to contribute to all study programs in Geography and to hold courses in both English and German. The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved with academic management at all levels.

The candidate shall take the lead of the interdisciplinary Center for Remote Sensing of Land Surfaces of the University of Bonn. Applicants are expected to link to the Department’s core research area Geomatics.

5-year Research Fellowships

Three Fellowships are available in this area.

You’ll form part of an ambitious programme of world class research. You’ll focus on the challenges of science and engineering at the interface between technological, human and natural systems.

There are five engineering research groups specialising in:

  • environmental engineering
  • geomatics
  • geotechnical and structural engineering
  • transport engineering
  • water resource engineering

You’ll be expected to specialise in one of these disciplinary areas. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues in other Civil Engineering groups. More widely, you’ll address the University’s Sustainability societal challenge.
